Habitual Constipation 习惯性便秘

Habitual constipation is a very common complaint among middle- age working adults. Many factors can lead to this medical condition such as:

  • Degeneration of the large intestine and rectum
  • Bad habit of ignoring the desire to have bowel movements

From TCM perspective, habitual constipation is caused by a variety of internal energy (qi) problems. The most common cause of habitual constipation is mood disorders and emotional distress. These mental stress weaken the liver, spleen qi and eventually lead to stagnation of qi in large intestines, thus caused constipation and other abdominal problems.

Acupuncture treatment and herbal remedy are usually very effective in relieving constipation. However, a healthy lifestyle and diet are also important to prevent recurrence of the illness.

Serif-help Abdomen Massage
Place one of your palms on your abdomen. Do a clockwise massage over your abdomen (tummy) for 10 to 20 minutes. It can be done in most positions – lying, sitting or standing. The massage helps to relieve constipation. Avoid doing the massage after meal.
